Proper placement of cargo in the vehicle is the alpha and omega of logistics. It determines the efficient use of cargo rolling stock, safety of goods, reduction of risks during transportation, and cost optimization.
Taking into account the convenience of use, the possibility of mechanized loading and unloading, cargo is transported in most cases in the form of unified transport units – pallets. When planning transportation, it is necessary to choose the correct scheme of their arrangement.
Pallet loading schemes in the vehicle
Road transport is the world leader in freight transportation. And this is no coincidence: the extensive road network, the variety of trucks and their adaptability to different conditions make transportation by road the first choice.
When selecting the layout, the following factors are taken into account first, depending on which the permissible number of pallets with cargo is determined:
- payload capacity of the vehicle;
- internal dimensions of the body (length, width, height) and its usable volume.
When positioning the pallets, convenience and logical loading and unloading processes must also be taken into account. In addition, the pallets must not be moved during vehicle movement and must optimally load and occupy the vehicle’s usable volume.
How many pallets can a gazelle hold
There are many modifications of this car. Let’s consider the standard range of bodies.
A 3 meter gazelle with body dimensions of 3.0(3.2) × 1.9(2.0) × 1.9(2.0) × 1.5(1.7) accommodates 5 1200×800 pallets or 4 American 1200×1200 pallets. If the body length is less than 2 m, it accommodates 4 Euro pallets and 3 American pallets.
With body dimensions of 4.0 (4.2) × 2.0 × 2.0, 8 Euro pallets or 6 American pallets are loaded into the gazelle. With dimensions 6,0(6,2) × 2,2 × 2,2 – 12-13 Euro pallets or 10 American pallets.

A very popular truck for small transportation. With a payload capacity of up to 3 tons and a volume of up to 16 m3, it can accommodate 6 Euro pallets.
Pallet capacity in a 5 ton truck
Most of these trucks have a body length of 6.0-6.4 m, so the capacity of pallets depends mainly on its width. If it is less than 2.4 m, it will not be possible to place euro pallets in full 2 rows. That is, in this case 12 europallets will fit. But if the width is greater than 2.45 meters, then it will be possible to load 16 euro pallets with cargo.

Pallet capacity in a 10-ton truck
These trucks do not have much more usable body volume than 5-ton trucks. With a width of 2.45 m and a length of 7.5 m, a maximum of 17 Europallets can be accommodated. Pay attention to the total weight of the load so that the maximum load on the vehicle is not exceeded.

The dimensions and usable volume of the vans may vary slightly. Most often you can encounter a volume of 82.0 m³ (up to 120.0 m³ is common) and dimensions (HxWxD) of 2.7×2.45×13.6 meters. In such a body can fit 33 Europallets and 26 standard pallets (1200×1000 mm). Taking into account the height of the body, sometimes pallets can be stacked if the cargo is not fragile and the height of the pallet does not exceed 1.2 meters. In this case, more pallets can be placed in the wagon.
The total weight of the cargo must be carefully monitored so that it does not exceed the permissible weight of 20 tons. Accordingly, each europallet can weigh no more than 600 kg, and a standard pallet no more than 740 kg. In addition, you should pay attention to the loading density: 1 m² of body floor should not exceed 1.5 tons of cargo.

How many pallets go into the 20 and 40 foot containers
The development of containerized cargo transportation at one time became an impetus to the mass use of standard transportation containers – pallets. Let’s consider the schemes of placement of euro pallets and cargo on pallets with dimensions 1200×1000 mm in standard containers, which are usually called by their length in feet. This is an English measure of length, 20 feet approximately corresponds to 6.1 m, 40 feet – 12.19 meters.

A popular type of container for cargo transportation both by sea and land transport. Internal dimensions of a 20-foot container (HxWxD, m) are 2.35×2.33×5.9 m, useful volume 33.2 m³, load capacity 21.7-30 tons. It accommodates 11 europallets and 9 or 10 standard pallets.

Sea container 40 feet has the following characteristics: internal dimensions (HxWxD, m) 2,35×2,33×12,0 m (width of some modifications (Pallet Wide) can reach 2420 mm), useful volume 66,0 m³, load capacity 30 tons. It can accommodate 25-30 euro pallets or 22-24 standard pallets.
