Wooden pallets are indispensable in any warehouse. Wooden pallets are used to move, store and unload goods.
History of wooden pallets
Wooden container in the form of pallets, is used for the transportation of goods for more than a century. During this period, mankind has managed to bring its design to perfection. At present, the rate of use of wooden pallets is increasing. And even small companies are already taking advantage of wooden pallets.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, wooden pallets were just coming in and were perplexing to most people. In those days it was predominantly railroad transportation. Goods were regularly scratched and damaged during transportation in this way, which naturally reduced their value. Railroad companies were puzzled as to how to cut costs, and the solution was obvious – the cargo had to be rigidly secured. The only question was how to secure the cargo?
This is how the ancestor of the wooden pallet came into being – the poloz. The skid is completely different from the real type of cargo container. With the further development of the trucking industry, it became clear that the skid simply could not fulfill the necessary functions. Initially, it had the appearance of two parallel planks, fastened together with bars on top. At altitude, the weight of the load increased several times and began to fail. After a short consideration, the construction was reinforced from below, so the wooden pallet as we know it today was created. In the process of daily work of the movers, new defects were found, new functions that should be performed by the wooden pallet appeared. To save space, wooden pallets were placed on top of each other.
So what is a wooden pallet?
Wooden pallets are devices with the help of which loading and unloading operations are carried out during transportation of various cargoes. Features of the use of wooden pallets provides for their movement together with the cargo, which is directly on the pallet itself. In global transportation, the size of a wooden Euro pallet is strictly standardized. One of the main standards (ISO – international standard) has dimensions of 1000x1200x145mm. As a rule, an empty pallet weighs from 15 to 21 kilograms. In Europe, pallets of EUR standard (euro pallet) are widespread, it is a little smaller, the size of such europallet is 800x1200x145mm. In Russia, both standards are used: 1200×1000 mm pallets and 1200×800 mm pallets.

The choice of wooden pallet is influenced by several factors – where the goods are being shipped and how they will be stored. Sometimes, in special cases, the usual standards of wooden pallets are not suitable, due to special storage conditions or due to the peculiarities of the goods themselves. In such cases, wooden pallets with special dimensions – non-standard wooden pallets – are produced.
In some cases, it is more convenient to use plastic pallets because they are more durable and are made in such a way that they can be transported more compactly. The right choice of wooden pallets determines your company’s costs, as well as the efficiency of loading and unloading operations.
In many cases, in order to save money, companies buy used wooden pallets. One or two times used pallets do not differ significantly from a new one, neither in external parameters, nor in technical characteristics. By using used wooden pallets you can significantly reduce costs.
Euro pallets
Each European wooden pallet is marked with a corresponding stigma – an oval with the letters EUR inside. Without this mark, the shipment can easily be refused at European customs. But it is not only about the size of the wooden pallet itself, this mark indicates that the pallet has passed the sanitary and technical standards adopted in Europe. Do not forget about the height of the euro pallet, it must strictly correspond to 145 mm. This size is designed for forklift trucks used throughout Europe. Pallets of a lower height will be impossible to lift, higher pallets take up more space and therefore transportation will be more expensive. This is why all EURO wooden pallets must strictly comply with the norms.
Much in the use of a wooden pallet depends on their design solution. Standard Euro pallets, the dimensions of which are documented, have several design solutions.
There are two main types of Euro pallets according to the way they are loaded – two-grip and four-grip. The first ones are quite strong, but they are quite inconvenient to use. The latter are less durable, so they are often used as disposable, after which they are sent for recycling.

The euro pallet platform consists of five boards of different widths, alternating with each other. This solution allows you to get the strongest possible wooden pallet with small dimensions. If you want to use the euro pallet many times, make sure that the thickness of the top boards is twenty-two mm.
Because wooden pallets are used more than once, they must meet certain requirements. It is the requirements that help to select the permissible load. Depending on the condition of the euro pallet, it is assigned a certain grade.
The highest grade corresponds to white and clean wooden pallets without stains and darkening, without cracks, breaks and chips. Wooden pallets of the highest grade are used three times, after which their grade is changed.
Wooden pallets of the second grade differ only in the amount of use. All external and technical requirements remain the same as for the highest grade pallets. Minor damage, including chips and small cracks, already corresponds to the third pallet grade. They may be slightly soiled and tarnished from time. This also includes pallets that have been slightly repaired.
European Union countries obligatorily require pallets imported into their territory to have phytosanitary certificates. These documents confirm that the wood has been treated against insects, fungi and other substances. In this way, the EU countries try to exclude the chance of bringing unwanted “guests” into the country.
Manufacture of wooden pallets
The production technology depends on the method of manufacturing wooden pallets, which can be manual, partially automated and with the use of automatic production line.
Our company produces wooden pallets in a partially automated way. Thus, each manufactured wooden pallet in our company meets all the requirements of GOST. Due to the production of wooden pallets from high quality materials, our pallets will serve you for many years.

Flaws on the boards are not allowed. Blanks for the production of wooden pallets must be intact, splicing is unacceptable. No knots are allowed in the places where fasteners are installed and on the ribs of the end planks. If knots have fallen off during processing, the holes will be sealed with plugs made of the same wood.
Wooden Euro pallets are made of alder, aspen, if, pine, whose humidity level should be below 24%. Wooden europallet, standard size, is made of planed boards. All elements are fastened with nails, which provide appropriate strength of the structure. A standard Euro pallet consists of 20 elements, the total weight is about ten kilograms, and the load capacity of the Euro pallet is up to 2.5 tons.
By manufacturing wooden pallets from high quality materials, our pallets will serve you for many years. And if it is not necessary, we will gladly buy used wooden pallets for repair and further realization.
